Back To… Behind the Screen Study October 2021

Updated behavior and attitude of moviegoers throughout the pandemic

As the country enters a new phase of the pandemic and a return to normalcy is underway, NCM conducted a study to better understand how moviegoers are getting back to their everyday lives and leisure activities

NCM’s core 18-34 movie-going audience is leading the charge in the return to normal. They’re not only driving the box office, but engaging in other leisure activities outside of the home. They’re back to dining out, traveling, shopping, hanging out with friends & family, and so much more. And more importantly, they’re excited for the upcoming holiday season. Moviegoers are looking to spend money and starting their holiday shopping early.

A few key findings:

  • 98% of these young movie-goers are back to the movies
  • In addition to going to the movies, 91% are also enjoying dining out
  • Nearly 75% are planning to spend more or about the same as they did last holiday season
